Who needs it?
Individuals wishing to work on or near the line on the Rail Network. Without a valid Sentinel PTS card you will not be allowed onto any worksite. The purpose is to ensure that everyone is competent and medically fit. A PTS card is issued once you have successfully passed a Personal Track safety course and is valid for 2 years.
What do you learn?
This course offers a basic understanding of various safety aspects of the working environment on AC and DC electrified lines, rail terminology, positions of safety, Network Rail's Drug & Alcohol policy, keeping you safe at work. Also includes instruction on emergency communication procedures and use of the phonetic alphabet. As part of the PTS Initial course candidates will visit a fully operational section of track. Candidates will be given a Personal Track Safety handbook.
What do you need?
To be able to attend a PTS course you will need:
- A valid medical certificate to Railway Group Standards GH/RT8067
- A negative Alcohol & Drugs screening to GH/RT8070
- Blue hard hat/safety footwear/Hi-Visibility clothing meeting the requirements of GO/RT3279
- Personal photo ID - (Passport, new-style drivers license, CIS card etc.)
- 2 passport size photographs - subject must be wearing glasses if worn
- National Insurance number
