Who needs it?
Staff who are required to ensure their own protection whilst carrying out patrolling, examining or inspection duties as defined in the Hand Book Modules 6, 7, 8, 9. IWA cannot be held by candidates with a red triangle on their Sentinel card.
What do you learn?
The responsibilities of IWA, procedures when working alone, Safety critical communications, Selection and planning of protection systems, Arrangements for line blockage protection. Candidates will also undergo a PTS assessment. A logbook will be issued at the end of course.
What do you do?
The role of the IWA is to create a safe system of working for the individual. There are occasions when a person may need to go trackside alone in the course or their job. Maybe to examine a structure to determine what repairs are necessary, or to visit a site prior to starting work. IWA is particularly useful to surveyors, managers, planners etc.
What do you need?
To be able to attend a IWA course you will need:
- A valid PTS track safety card
- A valid medical certificate to Railway Group Standards GH/RT8067
- A negative Alcohol & Drugs screening to GH/RT8070
- National Insurance number
