Who needs it?
Staff who are required to set up, maintain and withdraw a worksite within a T3 possession, and authorise the movement of trains into or within that worksite in accordance with Network Rail Standards. The ES competence cannot be held by candidates with a blue circle on their Sentinel card. Candidates will have held the COSS competence for at least 2 years.
What do you learn?
The responsibilities of the ES, attending pre-planning meetings, correct completion of necessary paperwork, the use of appropriate publications, protecting a line open to traffic, authorising train movements within the worksite, communicating with the PICOP and the COSS, monitoring and maintaining a safe worksite, requirements for safe and efficient train movements. Successful candidates will need to follow the assessment process.
What do you do?
An ES is appointed to set up and maintain a worksite in a T3 possession. The ES will communicate with the PICOP and the COSS, ensuring all work is carried out safely.
What do you need?
To be able to attend an ES course you will need:
- A valid PTS track safety card endorsed COSS
- Normal colour vision
- A valid medical certificate to Railway Group Standards GH/RT8067
- A negative Alcohol & Drugs screening to GH/RT8070
- GE/RT8000 Rule Book
- National Insurance number
